Jul 13, 2010 If your Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 game is not running under Windows 7, this is will get it running. What you need to do is find the game exe and open properties and go to the compatibility tab. On this set the operating system to Windows 95 or Windows 98, check Disable Visual Themes, Disable deskto.
Ultimate Rollercoaster >Discussion Forums >Roller Coaster Games >Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 And Windows VistaWill Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 work with Windows Vista??? I got a new PC about 2 weeks ago, and even though RCT3 works great on it, I'm hoping that RCT2 does as well, since I still enjoy playing it. I just want to know if it will work before I proceed with installing it. Overall, I want to know if it will be safe to install my Windows 98/XP era games on my new PC, or if I should get rid of them. Thanks for any help.
- I've gotten it working before under Windows 7 64-bit in a VM (and have 17 other equally old games working fine). The problem is I don't remember how to get this one working, and Googling hasn't provided answers. There's just forum posts of 'Oh, but it works for me'. A second physical computer is not an option when VMs work fine. ALT+ENTER does.

I have not had any issues running RCT2 with all the expansions on Windows Vista.
I don't know if it makes a difference but I bought the downloadable version that included 3 expansion packs. I have the storebought version of the game as well but found it cheaper to get the expansions by purchasing the game online.

Can u tell me how u got RCT2 on vista step by step thanks
I'm having trouble with RCT 2 on Vista. I open it up and within about 30 seconds it just shuts off. I'd be playing with it and it just shuts itself off. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it's the same thing. It did work a couple times though.
And I know it's nothing to do with memory or ram because I have more than enough of that.
I'd appreciate some suggestions on how to get Platinum to work with Windows vista. Running as adminstrator does not help.
This is, word for word, my problem!
Its dissapointing! Have you reached a solution yet?
I had numerous problems running RCT 1 & 2 on Vista. My biggest issue is that I'm using my desktop from 2 years ago and it only came with 1/2 Gig of RAM. By turning off some services like Superfetch and Windows Search, I've got Vista down to 264m at idle (which is very low for Vista). I could not play RCT and have AOL open. Heck, I have to go to my Task Manager and end the process on AOL, even when it's not open, in order to play RCT. That being said, I went to Cnet.com and downloaded the 2 patches listed for RCT and Vista (sorry, I don't have actual link but they are easy to find by typing 'patch for RCT for Vista'.
I can play the game fine, at all times, even without changing the compatibility tab. But I often have to end processes or restart my puter before and after playing to get other stuff to work. In my case, I'm sure my main issues is memory. But the key is to get the patches. I couldn't get it to run without.
